Climbing the Ranks

This year has been bonkers for me, writing-wise, and the hits keep coming.

I released The Search for Sam in September to moderate success – top 100 for the first time ever! Then I had my very first book signing in October and sold several books! Now this has happened and it’s blowing my mind.

I was so excited about being #1 in New Releases that it barely occurred to look at the main Tudor Historical Romance list, but when I did I got a huge surprise this morning when I woke up. I was excited about top 20 last night and woke up to #4. I’ve basically been losing it all day.

On top of that, I’m still at #1 in New Releases at the time of this writing. I’ve slipped down the general list but I’m holding firmly on to New Releases. I can’t help but hope that the next book will bring me closer to #1 on the bestseller list.

if you want to read it, it’s on sale for $0.99 for a limited time. After next Tuesday it goes up to $2.99, so this is your chance!

I’m Number WHAT?

Last night I was up until midnight for completely non-writing-related reasons and decided to meander over to Amazon as soon as I got my email that A Christmas Reunion was live. I was not at all expecting what I found.

My book debuted at #1 in Tudor Historical Romance! I really thought I was going to pass out. I never dreamed that one of my books would be #1 in anything, not by a long shot!

I had to sit for a minute and think about things. When I first got the idea to write a historical romance novel, I submitted it to Harlequin because of course I did. Also I had submitted a contemporary to them a long time ago, which is another story entirely. They didn’t even send a reply, just a photocopy of their submission guidelines. I tried unsuccessfully to get an agent, then find a small publisher, which worked out twice until both of them closed and I was on my own.

When I made the decision to start self-publishing my own books, I knew there was a better than average chance I wouldn’t make more than a couple of bucks. Now I’ve had a book signing, one book reached the top 100 on Amazon, and another debuted at #1. Not to mention The Search for Sam getting shortlisted for a prize. I’m not sure how I got here but it can only go up.

As of the time I’m writing this, I am sitting at #2 in the new releases but for a brief shining moment I had the coveted orange flag and I can’t think of a better Christmas gift from the universe.

Hela Takes a Holiday: Christmas Wishes Book 1

It’s November! It’s completely dark by 6:30 and a brisk 65 degrees out (thanks, Texas) so let’s get into the Christmas spirit!

The Christmas Wishes series launches today and the first book out is Rebekah Lewis’ Viking romance, Hela Takes a Holiday. Any book with the goddess of death as the heroine is a winner for me. Here’s a bit more about it!

It’s lonely being the queen of the dead. Hela longs for a life among the living, and a chance at love. When Loki grants her wish, she’s elated…only to discover later that even a trickster god’s daughter isn’t safe from his deceit. How can she learn to adapt to life on Midgard if her presence disrupts the balance of life and death?

Björn the Untouchable requires a wife…but isn’t in a hurry to find one. Escaping the festivities of Yule, he discovers a naked woman in the middle of the forest. Something about her isn’t quite right, and having the same name as a death goddess is a bad omen to be sure. Nevertheless, he’s completely enchanted by her.

Hela has only twelve days of the Yule celebration to remain human, but otherworldly threats linger. Can she find true love in the arms of a Viking warrior in the land of the living, or will she be the cause of an entire village’s destruction? Only Loki knows, but he’s not one to share his schemes…

Sounds awesome, right? Pick it up today and see for yourself!

The Legacy’s Origin by Dawn Brower

DB_TheLegacysOrigin_EL_HiRes

What makes a person a witch?

For those living in sixteenth century Scotland the very word witch is terrifying. Everyone is afraid of witches, both to be accused of one, and to be cursed by one. In a series of events beyond their control one family faces their ultimate fear and the consequences they can’t escape.

The very idea of witchcraft becomes all too real for the Dalais family. Caitrìona Dalais Guaire, Sorcha Dalais Creag, and Niall Dalais are torn from their homes and put on trial. Their very lives are at stake, and everything points to their eventual demise.

In an act of desperation one of them arranges for the children to be secreted away to safety. Only time will tell if they are successful and if their legacy will live on…

This is the first book in our Enduring Legacy series and it tells the story of the original three magical siblings. It is from this book that everything else flows, and while it’s not essential to read it to enjoy the series, I highly recommend it. Dawn has done an amazing job creating a world that I’m thrilled to be a part of, and I’m looking forward to reading everyone’s books. The Legacy’s Origin kicks off the series, with the next book by Amanda Mariel available in September. I look forward to seeing you all in the world of the Dalais family!

Only a Rogue Knows – Now on Sale!

onlyarogueknows_mediumIt’s Tuesday, so you know what that means! Tacos? Yes, that too. Today’s a special Tuesday, though, because it’s the release day for Only a Rogue Knows!

Cordelia Whittemore went from being the daughter of a successful businessman to nobility when she married Lord Arthur Whittemore, and is looking forward to her new life and starting a family.

All of that comes crashing down around her when she discovers her husband having an affair, and finds that he wants to divorce her as soon as possible. The only snag is that his ailing father’s will requires them to remain married or Arthur – and by extension, Cordelia – will lose everything.

At her sister’s urging, Cordelia takes up piano again and uses her music as an escape, hoping every day that she’ll be free one day to find someone who truly loves her.

When Arthur employs solicitor Victor Pembroke to find a way to get around the conditions of his father’s will, Cordelia sees more than just an opportunity to be free of the Whittemore estate. From the moment they meet, she knows that Victor is the man she wants to be with in every possible way.

Tragedy strikes at a party hosted by Lord and Lady Whittemore, and it’s up to Victor to keep Cordelia safe before her husband’s past threatens both of their futures.

Originally part of the Every Rogue’s Heart box set, this is a revised and expanded edition whose heart is the same while having enough new material to be worth buying again. Plus, look at that cover!

Coming Soon – Only a Rogue Knows

img_5411I’m excited to announce that my next book, Only a Rogue Knows, will be coming out in June. June 12, to be specific!

Only a Rogue Knows was originally part of the Every Rogue’s Heart box set, and I’m now able to put it out on its own. It’s an Edwardian historical romance set in the small town of Greenley, where Lady Whittemore finds herself enamored with her husband’s solicitor after she discovers his infidelity. Victor has no interest in being tied down, but he is extremely interested in Lady Whittemore.

You may notice that some things are different in this edition of the story. It’s gone through another round of edits, and some things have been expanded and rewritten to further explore some of the details and characters. The gist of the story hasn’t changed but there are definitely some differences.

Watch for a cover reveal next Tuesday, with preorders starting that same day, and another excerpt to follow. Just like Drowned History, it will be $0.99 for the first month! Paperbacks will be available for those who would like one, and a signed one won’t cost more. I’m thrilled to be able to release this story as a standalone and hope that even if you bought Every Rogue’s Heart, you’ll read this one and enjoy it even more.

If you haven’t read the last excerpt, you can find it here. Enjoy!

Happy Book Birthday, Drowned History!

Today is a very special day for me.

I was so excited when The Detective’s Brother came out. It was the first book I’d published, and the fact that it was through a publisher made me feel amazing. I knew I wouldn’t sell too many books being a new author, but at least I’d be getting my name out there.

Then Booktrope folded.

Thanks to the way Booktrope was set up, my book was left in publishing limbo. Until I either pay my editor or figure out how to give her a portion of my sales as promised, I won’t be re-releasing it.

Instead, I wrote a pirate novella and an Edwardian romance novel with some amazing women who showed me that self-publishing is a valid option, and who have found success and bestseller status by doing so. With advice from them on marketing, publishing, and advertising, I decided to jump in with both feet. Drowned History is the result!

It’s the story of Alice and George, two people who were pulled apart by circumstance and thrown back together by the search for an ancient Indian artifact. While their party is visited by strange dreams that seem all too real, George is fighting the re-emergence of his feelings for Alice, who desperately wants to apologize to him for leaving. The evidence leads deep underground, which is where things really start getting strange.

Drowned History is on sale now! It’s $0.99 for the next month, and the price goes up to $2.99 after that. If you have Kindle Unlimited, it’ll be free anytime! Pick it up now while it’s cheap!

And for those of you interested in a print copy, they’ll be available soon. I’ll make an announcement when they’re in my hands and ready to sign, so keep an eye on my social media feeds for more info as it comes!
